Once upon a time, in ancient Edo, giant bugs are terrorizing the citizens. And thus, the Insect Magistrate was formed to fend them off.

Our main character, Jinbei, is a young samurai from the country-side who came to Edo to join this office. He came on behalf of his father, who received summons to join this group but is unable to do so due to an injury.

However, upon arriving at Edo, Jinbei quickly gets lost, and randomly encounters our token damsel in distress Oharu.

Soon enough, thought, a giant insect attacks, and Jinbei quickly gets a taste of the work he set himself to do. But he pretty much fails in doing so.

But he’s relentless at the very least, chasing down the spider to rescue Oharu even until the spider’s nest.

Help soon comes in the form of the real professionals at bug-extermination.

Jinbei does manage to hold his own, though, showing enough potential for the Insect Magistrate’s head to take notice of him.

That is, until the very big bad shows up, which requires the big shot of the office to handle.

And thus begins Jinbei’s career in bug extermination.
It’s a pretty standard shounen action series, with enough ecchi elements to go around. It’s not the best action I’ve seen, but there’s plenty of monster-killing to go by. Nothing really significantly stands out, so in that sense it doesn’t do anything particularly bad or particularly bad. Good enough for your typical shounen action fix.
