Closer Look

The StoreJet 25MC is packaged in a simple, full-colored box with the product showing through. Its protected by a plastic shell inside.

The package includes the 25MC portable HDD itself, a USB Type-C cable and a couple of leaflets.
Those familiar with Transcend’s StoreJet line-up will easily see the familiar design on the StoreJet 25MC: a tough-case, unibody design with soft-rubber sleeving to protect the drive inside from shock and bumps. We’re not sure if there’s other color variants but the dark olive grey and green isn’t really the best for me but its fine and nothing too flashy.

That button right there is the one-touch backup button which works in tandem with the Transcend software for instant backups.

Here is the drive connected to the noticeably smaller USB Type C interface. Note that this drive runs in USB3.0 so it can work with both USB3.0 Type-A and Type-C cables.
User Experience & Conclusion

There’s really nothing revolutionary about the Transcend StoreJet 25MC and aside from the fact that it uses USB Type-C, there’s really not much worth noting. Still, the Transcend StoreJet line of drives are one of the most prolific portable drives in the world and that comes for a reason and that is because of the drives high-endurance design that allows it to take in a couple of bumps and still live to tell the tale.
As you can see above, theoretical performance is good for a hard drive and while it may sport USB3.0 bandwidth, the drive itself is only capable of 140MB/s read/write performance. While that may not be thrilling, do note that most 2.5″ hard drives already perform at this level regardless whether they be external or internal so that being you’re getting the same performance from your internal drive.
So ultimately, the allure of the Transcend StoreJet 25MC portable HDD lies in the classic tradition of having a rugged hard drive that can take punishment while still offering decent performance for a great price. We’re still waiting for price info for this model but we’re pretty sure it sits at the same range as its more traditional counterparts.
That said, the Transcend StoreJet 25MC is a convenient portable HDD if you’re looking to work with both new platforms on Apple and Windows. Its decent performance, tough body and convenient connectivity make it a great option if you’re looking collaborate across platforms.
