Most gaming mice nowadays are armed with sophisticated laser sensors that allow them to track at any surface. Still, there is no replacing a good mouse pad and every gaming company knows they have to complement their port folio with a similarly performing mouse pad. We’ve taken a look at the Ozone Neon Gaming mouse and noted how the mice is a perfect mix of performance at a decent price. Ozone has sent over their Lepton hard gaming mouse pad to complement the Neon and we’ll dedicate this review to that.
- Hard surface texture
- Maximum stability and control
- More speed and precision
- Low height of only 2.5mm
- Dimensions: 360 x 260 cm
The Ozone Lepton is packaged in a sealed, thin cardboard packaging. Tear-away flaps ensure your Lepton is untampered upon arrival and you can feel for yourself the texture of this mouse pad with the cutout window on front.
Ozone sponsors various European and Korean teams and the Lepton showcases Go Sung-bin aka IMP and he has this to say:
“I´m a professional gamer, I play hard and I need strong peripherals, that´s why my choice is Ozone Lepton Mouse Pad. The hard surface allows me to make critical and faster movements in order to destroy my enemies. With the new Ozone Lepton Mouse Pad I get the speed and control that I really need.”
Such fierce words from IMP himself should the enemies packing.
The Ozone Lepton sits between hard and soft mat in terms of rigidity. It is a hard mat because of its hard material but due to the thin profile, it flexes and bends. The mouse is great for large, flat surfaces and we advise against using the Lepton on uneven, bumpy surfaces as it does easily bend and create unevenness on the pad surface.
The base of the Lepton mouse pad is a rubber, rough surface which can cling to almost any surface including glass desks and wooden surfaces. No, it won’t stick to walls vertically but it will be non-slip enough to prevent skidding along the surfaces mentioned before.
Again, the Ozone Lepton is only 2.5mm thin which makes it very light and sliding across its surface is a very enjoyable experience. The Ozone Lepton has a red highlight material in-between the base layer and mouse surface for an aesthetic touch.
Ozone intends the Lepton to be a control surface. Its sand-blasted texture has a very nice gritty feel to it which should improve precision but still remain smooth enough to improve twitch movement and fast swipes.
Overall, the Ozone Lepton gaming mouse pad is a solid piece of kit. I personally prefer hard, control-focused mats and the Lepton has that right balance of speed and control to complement any gamer who want a balanced surface for their game. More refined players who have a adapted a certain playstyle may prefer more specialized mats, but for anyone who just needs a good hard mat should be pleased with the Ozone Lepton.
The Ozone Lepton is priced at £19.99 which is around $32, at this price it goes against the already dead but much more expensive Razer Ironclad and dual-sided Vespula. Certainly Ozone is charging a premium here for their hard mat but from our experience, its a good value given its quality build and excellent feel.
We give the Ozone Lepton Gaming Mouse Pad our B2G Recommended Award.
