As well as starring in big screen blockbusters and popular TV series, world-renowned actors have also provided voice overs for video games too, in between their other on-screen jobs. There have been many great actors that have starred video games relating to comic books, horror, sci-fi, and more.
Whether you’re a long time fan of Grand Theft Auto or Star Wars, here are some fantastic actors that have featured in video games.
Norman Reedus
Well known for his role as Daryl Dixon in the television series The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus has also provided his voice for a few video games characters too.
Most recently, Reedus has starred as the leading character Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding. This video game has been praised by many and includes more well-known cast members such as Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner.
Following on from his popular character in TWD tv series, he has also voiced Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land and The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
Samuel L. Jackson
He’s well-known for many film roles in his career, such as Jules in Pulp Fiction, Nick Fury in The Avengers, and Mace Windu in Star Wars.
With a classic voice, Jackson has also gone on to portray some of the same characters in the video game releases. He’s played Nick Fury in Disney Infinity 3.0 and Iron Man 2 and Mace Windu in Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. For fans of The Incredibles, he’s also provided the voiceover for his film character Lucius Best/Frozone in the game.
Years ago, Samuel L. Jackson also provided the voice for Officer Tenpenny in the San Andreas version of Rockstar’s best selling Grand Theft Auto series.
Mark Hamill
Another world-famous Hollywood actor who has starred in multiple films, tv series, and video games, is Mark Hamill. Best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, Hamill has also starred in related games such as Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In terms of video games voice overs, Hamill is best known for portraying The Joker in Batman Arkham Asylum. This role made complete sense as he has voiced The Joker many times throughout his career in numerous animated tv series.
Mads Mikkelsen
Although he’s not had many video game voice overs, Mads Mikkelsen’s recent voice over performances have been thoroughly praised. Most recently, he’s starred alongside Norman Reedus in Death Stranding as antagonist Clifford Unger.
In his live action career, Mikkelson has also played a great villain as Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal and as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. So much so, that he provided the voice over for Le Chiffre in the Quantum of Solace video game. For Bond fans who want to create some of the Casino Royale experience at home, online casino sites such as Slot Boss have card games like blackjack and poker that can be played live.
Rami Malek
Academy Award winner Rami Malek has had many great roles in his career so far, including Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot. He’s also starring in the next 007 film, No Time To Die, that releases later this year.
One of the most popular PS4 games over the past few years that he provided the voice over for was Until Dawn. This butterfly effect horror game featured many other well-known actors too including Hayden Panettiere, Peter Stormare, and Brett Dalton. Before his role as Joshua in Until Dawn, Malek also worked on video games including The Legend of Korra and Halo 2.
Keanu Reeves
He’s starred in many action-packed films in his career, including The Matrix and John Wick. As The Matrix was such a popular film trilogy, Keanu Reeves also reprised his role as Neo in the Enter the Matrix video game.
More recently, Reeves is starring in the upcoming dystopian video game Cyberpunk 2077 as the character Johnny Silverhand. The game is set to be released November 19th 2020 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
