Sony and Marvel has just dropped the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far from Home a direct sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The new movie’s chronological setting in the MCU timeline has yet to be confirmed but a brief scene between Spidey and Tony Stark during the battle against Cull Obsidian in New York would put it before the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
The new trailer shows Peter Parker heading off on a field trip with his classmates to Europe. The movie also debuts Mysterio played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Mysterio is one of Spider-Man’s classic nemesis from the comics and has also made his TV screen appearance during the 90s Spider-Man animated series.
Breaking down the trailer shows Peter with going for a school trip for 2 weeks with his class including his best friend Ned and budding love interest, MJ. Once in Europe, Ned is sleep-darted by Nick Fury who ask him to come with him. Peter agrees and quips that his field trip has been hijacked by Fury. He may be smart but if this is for a school project, he’ll probably be needing some help because he’s probably going to lose time to do actual school work because of his superhero hijinks. The next scenes show Spidey battling against various monsters of different elemental forms similar to Sandman and Aquaman. Mysterio arrives in one of the battles and combats the water monster. The trailer ends with the class talking about Mysterio and Spider-Man.
We can also see in the trailer Spider-Man’s noir suit, a nod to the alternate universe Spider-Man run in the comics.
