The current trend in the computing space is gearing more towards efficiency rather than outright power. As more and more companies jump in the 80Plus-certification ship, its getting harder and harder for them to distinguish themselves so the only way to go is to be more efficient than the rest. A while back Platinum-rated power supplies were so rare and reserved for small-capacity power supplies but now we’re seeing more powerful products get the 80Plus Platinum certification. Most of the companies offering these products are inclined to the enthusiasts and gamer markets and have only recently embraced efficiency as a marketing strategy but Antec has had a product line dedicated to efficiency for a good while now in the EarthWatts series of power supplies. Today we have the latest addition to this family of power supplies with the EarthWatts Platinum series. Read on and we’ll make this showy!

We’ve seen quite some stuff from Antec recently and most of them are oriented towards the quiet computing crowd. We’ve come to expect highly of Antec and the same can be said to the product we have for today. Antec has certainly been quiet as of late but as we’ve come to know Antec more as a company, we’ve found out they’re not the type to create a lot of buzz with their products. The same can be said with we have today, Antec has released the latest models of their EarthWatts series with Platinum certification which means these power supplies are rated for 89% efficiency at 100% load and 92% at 50% load. Now if those don’t mean anything to you, you’re certainly missing out. You can read more about 80Plus certification in their website here. Let’s get on with the review but first let’s take a tour of the EarthWatts Platinum from Antec.
