No kidding, Gamers these days can finally provide a valid reason for them to keep on playing! (well to some extent that is). According to a news posted at Inquirer US based study has found that children who played certain “serious” videogames increased the amount of fruit and vegetable they ate per day to around one serving.
Baylor College of Medicine professor Tom Baranowski, who led the study, said the video games “Escape from Diab” and “Nanoswarm,” which were designed to change diet and physical activity behaviors to reduce the risk of becoming obese and diabetic, “motivated players to substantially improve diet behaviors.â€
These two games were considered “epic” game adventures that can be considered of the same calibre as commercial quality games were in fact instrumental to altering children’s views on eating fruits and vegetables.
However, this says that the study has also found the weakness of videogames in terms of physical activity. Also it is said that while kids are actually intaking more vegetable and fruits, they have not reached the doctor-recommended minimum daily amount.
“Serious video games hold promise, but their effectiveness and mechanisms of change among youth need to be more thoroughly investigated,” said Baranowski.
So there’s still hope at least for obesse gamers then.
