It was rumored that NVIDIA will be releasing the RTX 3080 with 12GB of VRAM in January 11 and right on the dot, they just did. NVIDIA has just updated their official product page of the RTX 3080 to reflect a 12GB VRAM model and just like the RTX 2060 12GB, the RTX 3080 12GB version will have some improved specs to separate it from its gen1 twin.
The RTX 3080 12GB version will feature a higher CUDA core count of 8960 with a reference boost clock of 1710Mhz. The base clock is also adjusted to 1260Mhz. The key here is the 12GB VRAM complimented by a wider 384-bit bus.
The rest will the same and this will be a partner-only launch as the product page omits the Founders Edition specs which is pretty much an OC edition for the RTX 3080 10GB. Pricing information will be from partner card makers but with the current landscape and the potential allure of a new card, it might be priced a bit higher on top of the possible pricing difference than the standard card. As this is an alternate card and not a standalone products, most partners tend to not market it but I’ll try to get a sample from our partners for review as we’re also updating the Back2Gaming GPU test results for 2022.
