A DigiTimes report is stating that Intel is planning to reduce pricing on its 8th-gen and 9th-gen CPUs in response to the imminent launch of AMD’s 3rd-generation Ryzen processors. Sources have stated that Intel has already told partners about this plan which could see Intel processors getting price cuts of up to 15% which would equate to roughly to $25 to $75 (PhP1200 to Php3800) for higher-end SKU.
Intel’s 9th-gen product stack is expected to lose its edge over the competition once the 3rd-gen Ryzen comes out on July 7th and Intel is expected to release their Ice Lake desktop parts by 2020. This means that Intel will still need to market its current 8th-gen and 9th-gen parts through price-cuts, promotions, bundles and focusing on their gaming prowess. The HEDT refresh for Intel is expected to arrive in Q3 2019. Digitimes sources state that price cuts is Intel’s immediate response is to reduce prices for its consumer DIY processors.
AMD is launching the Ryzen 9 3900X to compete with the Core i9-9900K, the Ryzen 7 3800X vs. the i7-9700K and the Ryzen 5 3600X against the i5-9600K. AMD’s internal testing have put these chips in direct competition with each other in terms of both gaming and content-creation applications. AMD’s top-end Ryzen 9 will see a core advantage over the Intel part with an upper-end HEDT-matching Ryzen 9 3950X with 16-core only matching up against Intel’s HEDT part.
