Hideo Kojima‘s much awaited first post-Konami game gets a trailer and a release date. The enigmatic Death Stranding will come out exclusively on the PS4 this November 8, 2019. Watch the trailer below.
The almost nine-minute trailer offered a ton of insights to the game especially the gameplay, from traveling the open-world using various tools, motorcycle riding, the varied environments and weather, to some combat footage. The trailer also showed a lot of cut-scenes that shed some light to the story (somewhat), along with characters we’ve never seen before. The whole trailer seemed to hint at themes of connectedness and isolation, continuing a tradition that Kojima himself started in Konami by making games with themes in mind.
In a new statement released by Kojima alongside the new trailer, he said that “Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.”
First unveiled at E3 2016, Death Stranding stars Norman Reedus in the lead role as Sam Bridges, Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, and Guillermo del Toro.
