Gunpla dreams do come true.
At the 53rd Shizuoka Hobby Show 2014, there were two announcements that made my day as a Gundam fan and Gunpla collector.
The first is the announcemnt of a new 1/100 Gunpla category called “RE” short for “Reborn”. They are basically improved versions of the old No Grade 1/100 (sometimes called 1/100 HG). What that means is that you have the basic High Grade technology, size it up to 1/100 scale, give it a decent amount of details, and that’s it. While still too simple when placed beside true Master Grade models, this line allows really big mobile suits that are not economically feasible to make into MGs to at least be made in 1/100 scale.
There are three kits currently slated to be released in this line. First is the MSN-04 II Nightingale (the ‘perfect’ form of the Sazabi) which will be released on September. The second is the MSF-007 Gundam Mk-III which will see the light of the day on December. And finally (for now), RX-78GP04G Gundam GP04 Gerbera which will be relased in March of next year.
Second is the announcement of the Hi-Nu Gundam ver Ka to be released on August 2014. For Gundam fans, this is the ultimate Amuro Ray mobile suit that appeared in the novelization of the movie Char’s Counterattack. I’ve been waiting for this kit since the Nu Gundam ver Ka was released because it offered the possibility of retaining its original bulky proportions. The first release of this design featured a very slim mobile suit that lost a lot of it’s ‘ooomph’ (though a solid kit nonetheless). So if you love Mobile Suit Gundam and a big Amuro Ray fan, this kit is a must buy.
Here’s more pictures of the big guy.
