Bigzur Games has released a pre-alpha game demo of Apocryph, an old-school first-person shooter inspired by Heretic, Painkiller, and Strife. The developer expects to release the game in Q1 2018 and a DRM-free release on GOG is being considered.
The pre-alpha game demo can be downloaded at:
Windows – www.bigzur.com
Linux – https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VuXr_oshUgqOP6ok05dpGYzxT37AdeF1
Features:
- Static, carefully handcrafted levels and level-hubs, all packed with secrets, monsters and traps.
- Your character can wield up to 9 different weapons with alternative fire modes, including melee armaments, spells, staffs and artifacts.
- The game uses a sophisticated gore system. A powerful finishing blow can rip a part of the enemy right out of him, while critically over damaging an opponent literally blows them to pieces, with limbs flying across the room and sticking to the walls.
- Enemies have varying abilities and attributes – flying, shooting ricocheting projectiles, homing projectiles, firing a wide spray of projectiles, creating shockwaves, summoning minions, teleporting and some more.
I tried the demo on a gaming PC equipped with Core i7 7700 and Radeon RX 480. Performance optimizations are still needed but it’s understandable since the game is still in pre-alpha stage. On the bright side, I didn’t experience any game crash or system freeze while playing the game demo and it is compatible with Radeon GPU running on Mesa.
Here is the latest official game trailer showcasing the other weapons that will be available in the full game.
