Leaked investor slides from AMD has detailed the timeline at which AMD wants to release their AMD Vega GPUs in the first half of 2017. This sees the company relying on its current lineup of Polaris graphics card to compete until the launch of the new cards with the Zen CPU adding to the stack once its released during the same time. Its unsure if both Zen and Vega will launch in the same quarter but 1H 2017 is noted in the slides.
One of the key things to notice here is that AMD is not planning to release any new Polaris graphics card which leaves its RX 480 the highest card in its current product stack leaving NVIDIA’s higher-end cards uncontested in that price range.
The slides also list opportunities in the ARM market as well as growing its semi-custom market which means AMD could be eyeing to partner with more console and platform devs to use its chips for their systems. This also suggests the lack of concurrent developments as AMD focuses its resources on its semi-custom business.
