AMD has released an update on their processor release schedule for the rest of the year. It was announced earlier during E3 that the Ryzen 9 3950X, a 16-core and 32-thread CPU, will be the first of its kind for the mainstream platform. The processor is rated with a boost clock of 4.7Ghz, a 100Mhz bump from the current Ryzen 9 3900X, and highly likely thanks to AMD’s recent update on their AGESA software. The Ryzen 9 3950X will be priced at $749 with a base 3.5Ghz frequency and a 105W TDP. It also has a 72MB cache. AMD was eyeing a September launch for the Ryzen 9 3950X but plans were pushed back and November is their new target schedule.
Alongside this reveal is the announcement of AMD’s new Rome-based 3rd-generation Threadripper processors. Also releasing in November, the AMD HEDT CPUs are positioned to contend with Intel’s upcoming Cascade Lake-X CPU for HEDT as well. There is no details on what 3rd-gen Threadripper is looking to be but earlier info have floated about the chipset and the possible core configuration.
