If you’re a certified PC enthusiast, you are probably one of those PC endeavors who definitely have watched Linus $300 Budget Gaming PC Challenge – Scrapyard Wars. It’s a series of episode created by the Linus Media Group that challenges Linus and Luke to build their own gaming grade PC and beat each other through benchmark results with a $300 budget only. By conversion using the foreign currency stated as of 6/27/2015, that’s about 13535.85 Philippine Peso.
With that challenge, they’ve implemented rules to follow and they are:
- Monitors and peripherals are not included.
- $300 budget is for the tower itself only
- They need to get it done within a certain amount of time.
That’s quite simple enough, that is if you live in Taiwan or Canada. Here in the Philippines, gaming grade at that budget would be quite impossible but we will take the challenge regardless.
If you want to know the specs of their PC, you have to watch the episodes. We don’t want to spoil the fun of it.
Scrapyard Wars episode 1a
Scrapyard Wars episode 1b
Scrapyar d Wars episode 1c
We would love to do the challenge and do it locally but we don’t have the budget to do so. So instead of getting in to it and record everything, we decided to see what we can get by taking a look at the following sites/store: dynaquestpc.com, tipidpc.com, olx.com and local store offerings to see what we can get from a 13535.85 Philippine Peso budget.
Here are some rules for us to follow:
- We cannot go for 2nd hand components as they might read this article or change their mind for some reason thus causing this challenge to be invalid. In summary: price is too unpredictable.
- Monitor and peripherals are not included.
- We must not exceed the $300 budget.
Components
Obviously, our setup is no way comparable against the tower build of Linus and Luke with Linus having a HD 7950 and Luke with R9 290. As we suggest, if you know your thing, better go for the scrapyard side and get yourself a far more powerful components.

Hehe.

Yup nasa plano nga yan pero ang mahirap pag alam nila na ipi-feature sila is either inflate ung price or babaan. So hindi realistic, pero naniniwala ako maganda 2nd hand market naten basta 1) alam mo san maghahanap and 2) alam mo hinahanap mo.
Project na talaga toh, thanks sa inputs guys (y)

Legal kaya if I just put in my broken i3 PC (costing 0 pesos, since previously owned siya), rip out the old mobo, and just replace it with a new one and change video card with a clearance 770GTX from PCHub? 😀 around 13k lang din

Bro, yung specs na pinost mo in which you said isn’t comparable to linus’ & luke’s build, is it somehow manageable when it comes to playing dota2? Im a noob pag dating sa pc builds pero i am planning to build my own gaming rig someday with a 15k budget (w/out peripherals). Hope you can help me out. Many thanks.

I’ve also read your other articles about 15k 20k gaming rigs pero yung pinost mo na 13k+ is much ideal for me because im on a tight budget. The lesser budget the better ika nga. Hehe. Please reply.
