Massive Gaming, one of the fresher faces in the Philippine online gaming distribution scene held a press preview event for two of their flagship releases, War Inc. and Mercenary Online. Eager to break the mold, Massive Gaming specifically chose these games to provide Filipino online gamers with a unique experience… one that’s punctuated by explosions and ridiculous amounts of gunfire.
First up, was War Inc. While primarily a first-person shooter, War Inc.’s hook is its ability to smoothly switch between first and third-person views. From what we’ve seen, both modes cater pretty well to their respective audiences and play styles. The game also features a fairly diverse number of customization options for characters and weapons. Yes, weapons. Massive Gaming reps on hand showed us that weapons will have up to eight customizations slots for players to upgrade according to the way they play. Different character classes will also be available, each with their own respective skills and traits for players to utilize.
Next up was Mercenary Online, hyped as a game developed by the same folks who brought us the Gears of War trilogy, and it shows. From the Unreal Engine-powered graphics right down to the running and reloading animations, this game really took pages from the Gears book, minus the raging mountains of meat that make up the main cast. Mercenary Online even features executions, wherein after weakening an enemy through enough gunfire and other normal attacks, players can get in close and trigger preset (and usually brutal) animation to finish them off.
Both games will be going into their respective beta phases soon. Stay tuned for updates on these two ambitious entries to the local free-to-play shooter scene. In the meantime, have a look at the other photos we took from the event in the gallery below.
