I have to admit, this recent almost-got-hacked incident made me think twice in the passwords I chose for myself in the various games I have. While I don’t do the typical no-no’s in password making (ie. using my birthday or my cellphone number as my password). My passwords (while still not the stupidest kind in the world) still fall under the “not thought of well” and “nearly stupid enough that everyone uses it”, category.
So, yeah – my Guild Wars 2 account got nearly hacked by someone who has the IP address: 220.185.50.207 and lives at Quzhou, China. The fact is, if there wasn’t an email registration feature in the game, they would’ve highjacked my account and well- you’ll see a more or less happy haoson.
I’m not even going to go trudge along the whole, here are the tips on keeping your account safe. Since account security should be second nature to us net junkies. However, the thing I’d like to put in the spotlight is the laziness of people in password creation which admittedly I have been doing so.
So, the lesson really is keep your passwords safe, keep them in a secure place (preferably your brain) and stop being lazy-asses and create passwords that are not too easy to guess. Oh of course be sure to keep your browsers free of phshing sites and well sites that can get your details.
