Pay to Play With a God or a Pretty Girl!

Tired of all the noobs and the horrible people you play games with? Or are you looking for a new and fun way of playing games with a beautiful girl? If you are, would you be interested in hiring either a god-like player or a pretty girl gamer? For a fee, of course! It’s just 15 Yuan ($3) an hour! You will barely notice it. And besides, you can’t put a price tag on fun and enjoyment, right?

Okay, so that was a bad marketing pitch, but I wasn’t kidding about the service. It’s true, but we’re not the one offering it. There is an existing company that allows its customers to choose from two kinds of players to play with. They can either pay to play with an extremely skilled player (god-class) or a beautiful gamer girl (MM-class). The company’s staff is comprised of eight people in total where five are men and three are women. They cater to various games including DotA All-Stars and League of Legends.

Why a person would choose a beautiful lady to play games with is quite self-explanatory. For the sake of just saying it, it’s to give the game a fun atmosphere given by playing a game with a female gamer. It keeps you from getting bored and burnt out. It also saves you the trouble of actually trying to figure out if the person behind that cute or sexy avatar is female. And you won’t have to wonder if she-but-potentially-a-he is trying to seduce you for items or buffs. Actually, I thought MM meant something like Matchmaking. I was surprised when I learned that it is in fact an internet slang for “mèimèi”, which could mean “pretty girl” or “little sister” and quite possibly — wait for it — “vagina”. Please pick up your jaw on from the floor if it fell, please. We will not be liable for any status ailments suffered for the duration of your surprise, excitement or disbelief.

On the other hand, the god-class staff members are for the more serious and hardcore players. These players are, as mentioned earlier, “extremely skilled” and are there to help you clear through difficult parts of the game such as aid you to level up, getting you through a quest, help you defeat a boss or just carry or support you through a horrible match-making game where the rest of your team decides to play carry at the same time. God-class is a quite appropriate term, I guess, since it not only reflects the skill level, but in some games, it also signifies the ability to defy the almighty system that seems to match your stack of noobs against a stack of five pros. Congratulations in earning more power to be in control of your win rates!

You think it’s a joke or lame or funny? Think again. The service is becoming quite popular among Chinese gamers that one of its female employees claim that she earns 2,000 Yuan ($320) a month just by playing one to four hours a night. Now that’s not so bad, is it?

So is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is it sexist for using females? Are females only fit for “fun” games? Does this get rid of the idea of working hard for game improvement? Does this stray you away you’re your friends? Can this potentially harm your relationship with peers and your significant someone? Will this have a significant negative effect on the gaming community and industry? Am I taking asking questions too far?

Well, it’s not like they said all females are to be in MM-class forever. And it’s not like they said you can’t play with a cute talented guy under MM-class either. As far as I’ve read, you’re not bound to a contract to hire god-classes every time you play a game. For me, there are still several things to consider before I can just flat out say it’s a bad thing or that it has a positive or negative effect on the gaming community. I do think, however, that it’s a really interesting take on earning money from gaming while satisfying other people’s ideas of gaming pleasure.

If given the chance, would you considering hiring one from any of the classes to play a game with? Truthfully, the god class immediately reminded me of the DOTA “god players”. If among my options included BurNing, Yamateh, Mushi, KuroKy, Loda or Vigoss among others, that’s actually something I would consider thinking about. I got pretty excited thinking I could hire one of them to play a game with me. Truth be told, $3 per hour is something I would consider paying for if it meant I could play a game with my ultimate favorite player, the K-God, KuroKy! *insert fangirly squeal here* I know he’s not Chinese (so are Loda and Vigoss), but he’s a god-player so your argument is invalid.
