So after sacrificing thirty virgins and an old goat to the gods, I’ve finally gotten hold of a copy of Dead Island.
I’ve heard mixed reviews about the game and frankly, I don’t care. I watched gameplay videos and decided for myself that I WILL buy this game and play this game.
It took so many disappointed visits to Datablitz until finally an informer (haha) told me they have it in one of the branches. The boyfriend got it for me on the same day and then gave it to me the day after. I’ve already placed another order for a Best Boyfriend trophy in his name.
When I got home I eagerly popped in the game, found that I had to patch it, then waited like a good llama until the game started. I’ve been hearing a lot about how the game is buggy like hell, which is why I didn’t skip the patch update. I tried to occupy myself with other things, tried not to hack the head off the nearest person I could see while screaming DIE ZOMBIE SCUM!
Then finally….
I really wasn’t planning on playing-playing the game as I had work the next day. I just couldn’t resist getting through the opening cutscene.
Nice opening scene.
There’s really something here. I like the first person perspective and the whole Jayden Triptocaine Tantrum I seem to be getting as everything falls into brain-eating chaos. I also like how my character seemed to think that the best way to fend off a zombie apocalypse is to go the fuck back to my room and get some goddamn sleep while shit goes down.
Character selection looks nice. Characters… don’t.
I get it that I’ll be playing through first person perspective and it’s not really important that I look pretty, but… I suppose I was unconsciously hoping for more interesting characters. Perhaps I expected too much because of my experience with Ellis from Left for Dead 2, I still think he’s one of the best characters in a zombie apocalypse setting. The characters were a bit disappointing.
Although the presentation was really nice, the characters themselves are a bit flat. I actually didn’t want to choose anyone. Nobody intrigued me. I guess the game wanted me to focus on their specialization rather than character. But man, I was really hoping for a hook.
Right now I just started the game, my character just woke up from my bed and I’m now looking at a door.
Here’s to hoping for happy zombie killing nights ahead!

You should’ve told you needed virgins for your sacrifice. I’m surrounded by them.
And I had this one a week after release day and its still sitting on my hard drive… un-fukken-played. T___T
@Terumi, I had unknowingly turned multiplayer on, actually. As soon as I got to that storage room, I was shocked as fuck when I saw like two Sam B. players staring back at me. LOL
@Boss Mac, aaaaaawwsnap! Also, play it, man!
Dude, I just wish I have a PS3 to call my own.
