In celebration of its 25th anniversary, 2K and Firaxis games have announced Civilization VI, the latest in Sid Meier’s revered turn-based strategy series. Pretty much the pioneer in the eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate genre, better known as 4X gaming, Civilization VI looks to push things even further, as any sequel worth its salt should.
As per the press release:
“Sid Meier’s Civilization games hold a reputation for defining the 4X gaming genre for the past 25 years,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the silver anniversary of our longest-running franchise than launching the eagerly anticipated Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, which will provide the most detailed, beautiful and complete experience ever featured in a Civilization game.”
That said, Civilization VI will be the first time we’ll get to see our cities physically expand across the map, allowing for players more strategic possibilities. Also thrown into the mix are the ability to embed units within units to bolster your forces and a more dynamic diplomacy system. The burning question here is, will Gandhi still indiscriminately nuke us into oblivion? We’ll find out when Civilization VI hits PC on October 21st of this year.
