So there’s this weird mobile app that shows you a picture of what your friend will look like once he’s dead. And for some reason kids love using that. Hibiki and his friend Daichi somehow end up trying the thing out, and it shows both of them dying in a subway train wreck.
Only that they viewed the video right when they were in a subway station, exactly where the video suggested they will die. And thus, an accident happens.
So are they dead? Not quite. The mobile app they have has some supernatural force in it, and asks them if they want to survive. And they do, because any sane person would want to. So a new summoning app is downloaded to their mobile phone, and they find themselves as the survivor of a train wreck.
Well, thing is, they are not alone, since they soon find these werewolves eating the corpses of those who died in the accident.
But then… a damsel in distress! Nitta, a schoolmate of theirs, somehow manages to survive as well, but is now being approached by one of these werewolves. She panics, but somehow her mobile phone summons a demon of her own who protects here.
Daichi somehow ends up doing the same, panicking and summoning his own demon, which allows the three students to somehow escape alive, amidst all the chaos.
But wait, there’s more! After escaping the train wreck, they are soon attacked by another weird thing that explodes and shoots projectiles at people. Nitta’s demon manages to protect her and Hibiki, as Daichi tries to go hero mode and drives a truck to ram down the thingy.
Of course, he fails miserably, and Hibiki ends up panicking and summoning his own demon, which apparently is some uber class Byakko thing, that defeats this weird attacking thingy.
And everyone’s all happy now. Well, maybe except me. I found it a bit generic. That, or it’s just way too similar to Persona. Something attacks, heroes summon their avatar, avatar defeats attacker. I don’t see anything that interesting yet. Of course, a second episode where they’ll explain things might change that…
But my main beef with this is probably how Hibiki kind of magically has the right stuff to deal with the situation. I mean, he immediately knew what to do, albeit he says he doesn’t understand what’s going on. But it feels kind of plot-devicey when your main character calmly and correctly deals with the surprise supernatural events around him. Life just doesn’t work that way.
On a side note, maybe they can collect summons? You know, gotta catch ’em all! (Unless, Ogre looks bad on the girl so they had to kill it and replace it with a pixie… sexist!)
